Installing themes on Xubuntu? (global)

Hi there,

I've recently installed Compiz on Xubuntu 9.10 Karmic. I'm having some trouble installing any themes. As I understand it, I should be able to import the .tar.gz files using the Emerald Theme manager, however when I browse to the directory the themes are stored in, they don't show up in the menu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I am looking for some nice checkboxes and radio buttons. I really like Tango and other icon sets like it, but none of them I have found come with styled input elements.

Does anyone know where i can find this? thanks a bunch.

Theme question (global)

Using the pixmap engine, I'd like to have black text on a light background but have black buttons with white text in a GTK theme. I've tried to accomplish this but haven't been able to - I think it involves creating an exception. Does anyone know how to do this with the pixmap engine? Is there a GTK theme I can study to learn how to do this?

Liferea (user support)

Hello al i am trying to add the Content feed to liferea in Ubuntu 9.10
My liferea version is 1.6.0
When i add the feed gnome-look-content.rdf i get a parser error.

yakuake doesnt show #s 3 - 8 (user support)

So in yakuake I can type 1,2,9,0. and no numbers in between. Even when I use the on screen keyboard, it doesn't allow 3 - 8...

Thats obviously kind of a bad thing, any help would be really appreciated.

In my own view this is analogous to

GTK: How to change that color? (artwork)

The screenshot is made using Murrine Gow Blue, and the color I want to know how it can be modified, is the light blue with a little darker borders, that you obtain when you use CTRL + Shift + Down/Up Arrow keys in a list (tree or normal list).

It's the color which is just under the mouse pointer of the screenshot.

If someone can tell me how this can be modified in a GTK theme, I'd we grateful :)

Current Linux Hardware Support (artwork)

Regarding the AMD Athlon Neo support on Linux I don't see any issue, and the radeon graphic card used is already 2 years old (as old as the Intel Atom ones) plus AMD has released the specifications and Open Source drivers are existing.

The high price of HPs model are for single units, the price for 1000 units shipment should drop to half.

The draw back can be the battery life. But giving the much more benefits, the Open-PC project will offer a way of claiming the attention, and not be just one Netbook more.

Another plus is that the AMD Neo is 64bits while the Atom is not. So you can install a 64bit Linux.

I also know about the HW support challenges in Linux.

But what I am trying to do is to take the point of view of a standard user.
And users have a purpose for buying a computer, they want to run some applications so at some point we need to tell them what the Open-PC can do.
And if the Open-pc can do the same as any other netbook, why a normal user should buy it? We have to give them a reason, and FOSS is not that important for a normal user, what is important is what they can do with it.
The project cannot live from the goodwill or "charity" of a few that care most about FOSS. I try to help by giving this critic views, because if the project targets the average user we have to find the way how to attract the attention of the average user.

This far I can find two ways:

1) give a bit more Graphic Power so you can announce 3D effects support and HD 720p video support. Intel graphics are no good for this.

2) usability. Target the usability of a Mac and integration with the web (Social Networks, photo sharing, ...). So users can find open-pc useful and cool.

To accomplish 2) it can take years, so what is the reason for a normal user to buy the Open-PC now?

If you plan that Open-PC for surfing the net and emailing on the go, you can do the same with a smart phone nowadays. You can carry it on the pocket and the battery lasts several days!

Speaking as a new comer...

Has a form factor been decided on yet?
From what I have seen on the forums
it appears that the netbook form factor
has been assumed as the default form
for it without any actual debate.

Have I missed something?
