Getting KDE is easy if you use the major Linux distributions; it's included in nearly all of them! Find out more about distributions shipping KDE

There are also several vendors that ship KDE on CD-ROM. Here is a partial list:

If, however, you do not use GNU/Linux or just want to get a more up to date version of KDE, then read below.

KDE 4.1 Beta 2

KDE 4.1 Beta 2 is the unstable, or development version. It is not suitable for production use at this point, but testing is welcomed. Please see the KDE 4.0.83 Info Page for details.

Currently, the following binary packages are known:

  • Fedora KDE 4.0.83 packages are in the experimental Rawhide development repository, as well as in the unstable repository hosted at the kde-redhat project.
  • Kubuntu packages are included in the upcoming "Intrepid Ibex" (8.10) and also made available as updates for the stable 8.04 ("Hardy Heron"). More details can be found in the announcement on Kubuntu.org.
  • Mandriva provide packages for 2008.1 i586 ( Mandriva Spring ). Please refer to README to more information and how to instal debug packages to provide upstream developers proper information in case you desire help KDE improving. For Mandriva cooker ( development ) users, 4.0.83 is fully available at cooker repositories.
  • openSUSE packages are available for openSUSE 11.0 (one-click install), for openSUSE 10.3 (one-click install) and openSUSE Factory (one-click install). A KDE Four Live CD with these packages is also available.
  • Magic Linux KDE 4.0.83 packages are available for Magic Linux 2.1. See the release notes for detailed information and the FTP tree for packages.

KDE 4.1 Beta 2 consists of the following source packages:

    • Debian packages will soon be in Debian unstable.

  • Fedora
    • KDE 3.5.9 updates for Fedora 7 and 8 have been built and pushed as updates"

  • Kubuntu
    • Kubuntu Hardy and 7.10

  • Mandriva Mandriva packages are provided now in official Mandriva repositories. For Mandriva 2008.0, users should enabled backports repositories. More info on how to enable backports, you can find in Backports and Candidate Updates. 2008.0 backports are kindly provided by Nicolas Lecureuil. For cooker and pre 2008.1 release candidate users, cooker repositories already have packages updated, just need choose your regular mirror and update your kde as usual.
  • openSUSE
    The openSUSE KDE packages are developed in the openSUSE Build Service. Please read this page for how to upgrade your KDE installation.
